About us
Welcome to the Amsterdam Film Group. Join us as we explore the magic of cinema! Our group is dedicated to bringing "cinemates" (people who enjoy watching films with others) together to watch films in cinemas and engage in lively discussions afterward. Whether you’re into foreign films, sci-fi, classics, action, drama, or anything in between, there’s a place for you here.
The hosts will do their best to organize screenings of different genres of films at various cinemas in Amsterdam. Everyone is responsible for buying their ticket (a link will be posted in the event description). This is an open space where group members can organize film events themselves. The hosts will post events for films they are interested in, but we encourage everyone to do the same! If you find a film you'd like to watch together and discuss afterward, please feel free to post it in the WhatsApp Group. All film suggestions are welcome and encouraged!
Come for the films, stay for the conversation. See you soon!

Directed by: Paul Verhoeven
Starring: Peter Weller Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, and Miguel Ferrer
Runtime: 1 hour and 42 minutes
Year: 1987
Paul Verhoeven brought a distinct European cynicism and sharp wit to this quintessential American action flick, cementing his status as a visionary Dutch export in Hollywood. Set against the crumbling backdrop of a futuristic Detroit, the film serves as a high-octane time capsule of 1980s aesthetic and corporate anxiety. It isn’t just about a cyborg; it’s a brilliant satire that skewers consumerism, privatization, and the media-obsessed culture of the era. The practical effects and Peter Weller’s iconic performance created a hero that felt both tragic and invincible, instantly entering the pantheon of sci-fi greats. Decades later, its influence remains undeniable, having shaped the "cyberpunk" visual language. RoboCop stands as a definitive cultural landmark that is as intellectually stimulating as it is explosively entertaining.
The film is in English without subtitles.
