🌙 Night Hike #3: Castles, Parks & Historic Estates in Leiden 🏰🌿

Join us for a relaxed Tuesday evening hike through the green parks, historic estates and castles of Leiden and Oegstgeest, followed by optional drinks together afterwards!

This circular route starts and finishes at Leiden Centraal. Along the way, we’ll explore peaceful paths, historic buildings, beautiful parks and two impressive castles.

We’ll begin while it is still light and finish after dark, giving us a great combination of nature, history and night hiking.

Whether you’re new to Leiden, looking to expand your social circle, or simply enjoy walking outdoors and meeting new people, you’re very welcome to join.

🥾 What to expect

• Approximately 8-10 km
• Around 2 - 2:30 hours, including short stops
• Moderate but mostly flat route
• A mixture of paved, gravel and unpaved paths
• Relaxed but steady walking pace
• Walking during sunset and after dark
• A friendly and social atmosphere

Depending on the group’s pace, weather and trail conditions, the route may be adjusted slightly.

No previous hiking experience is required.

📍 Meeting point

Leiden Centraal train station

We will meet directly at the station and start the hike together from there.

The location is easily accessible by public transport. If you’re coming by car, please check nearby parking options before arriving.

The exact meeting pin will be shared with participants before the event and in our WhatsApp group.

🕖 When

Tuesday, 15 September 2026

Meeting time: 7:00 PM

We will wait approximately 15 minutes for everyone and begin the hike at around 7:15 PM.

Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start together. We expect to finish between approximately 10:00 and 10:30 PM.

🍻 After the hike: Drinks & Socialising

After completing the route, anyone who would like to stay can join us for a drink in Leiden.

The drinks afterwards are completely optional—feel free to join only for the hike as well.

The goal is simple:

Outdoors + meeting new people + socialising.

• A flashlight or headlamp—a phone flashlight is also fine
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• A light jacket
• A reflective item if available

Some parts of the route are unpaved and may be muddy, particularly after rain.
