ENGLISH! WEDNESDAY / The Central House - Philosophy Meetup: 19:30h - 21h
Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup!
Do you have a hunger for deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue?
If yes, then this meetup will be very interesting for you.
• WHAT IS A MEETUP ABOUT?
At every meetup we have a discussion using Socratic method:
We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts.
The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives.
Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others.
A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning.
• WHAT TOPIC IS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP?
Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view.
Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups:
* What ideals are worth dying for?
* Why are we never satisfied?
* Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is?
* Is identity necessary?
* How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others)
* What is friendship?
• WHO PARTICIPATES AT THIS MEETUP?
Anybody is more than welcome to join our meetups. Our events gather people from different backgrounds, different cultures, while no philosophical background is mandatory.
Our usual participants are people that have a hunger for deeper understanding of themselves and the world. People that value deep, honest and respectful dialogue.
The inspiration for Socrates Cafe originates with the book of the same name, written by the philosopher Christopher Phillips. (Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy, 2002). Phillips felt that the Socratic method of dialogue and discussion should be practiced not just in academic settings, but among everyday people interested in examining deep questions together. Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. ReactJS Barcelona - April 2026
April Meetup is here! Let's gooo! We have some amazing speakers, and of course pizza and drinks will be available after the event.
──────────
**18:30: Welcome**
Grab a drink, and a seat until everybody arrives!
**18:45 Intro by Host Neciu Dan**
**19:00 Type safety across the network chasm**
Speaker: [Alexander Vechi](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alvechy/), Product Engineer at SkyScanner
Type safety often stops at the network boundary. In this talk, Alex will look at how modern frameworks try to bridge that gap, and share lessons from Skyscanner’s setup with protobuf-generated TypeScript types, including versioning, nullability, and validation to make API contracts safer in real frontend code.
**19:25** **Building a Workflow Builder From The Ground Up**
Speaker: [Martí Serra Molina](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ACoAADubmLMBJy_b_UNaB8Za17gbj1sc69JgkcY/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_profile_view_base%3BBKaAifpsSFG5%2BC062yD%2Blw%3D%3D) Frontend Engineer \| Creator of Formity
Workflow builders are powerful tools for visually designing and automating complex processes, but building one from scratch in React poses unique challenges. Most teams reach for React Flow to handle node-based diagram rendering, yet there is still significant logic to build on top of it — a node layout algorithm, workflow state modeling, drag-and-drop, undo and redo, and more. In this talk, you will learn how to build a workflow builder from the ground up and the real-world complexities that emerge along the way.
**19:50: Drinks and networking!**

**Talks:**
**1\. Topic:** **PHP Fibers: simplifying async code and speeding up development**
**Speaker:** [Max Fomichev](https://www.linkedin.com/in/maxim-fomichev/), Infrastructure Engineer at Manychat
**About the Talk**
We constantly search for creative ways to get maximum out of php, without bringing excessive complexity for our developers daily work. In this speech I'll sum up our way, describe where are we now in a bit, and share how we started to use fibers and asynchronous http requests to speed up both our code writing and execution, while avoiding excessive cognitive load for our developers dealing with "asynchronous" programming.
**About the Speaker**
Max has decades of experience in IT, primarily focused on programming in PHP and running Unix servers. For the past six years, he has been working at Manychat, a leading chat-marketing platform, where I combine the roles of an Infrastructure Engineer, SRE, and developer, optimizing systems and ensuring reliability.
**2\. Topic:** PHP Performance Demystified - Measure, Understand, Optimize
**Speaker:** [Volker Dusch](https://www.linkedin.com/in/volker-dusch/), Head Of Engineering at Tideways, PHP 8.5 Release Manager
**About the Talk**
In this talk, we'll explore options for PHP performance analysis. From understanding how the PHP virtual machine and OPCodes work, to performing your own reliable and meaningful benchmarks, and how to use request profiling using open-source and commercial offerings. You will leave with an overview of the available tools and an understanding of how to use them in your day-to-day. Learning how to spot bottlenecks and optimize them away efficiently and confidently.
**About the Speaker**
With over 20 years of software development experience, Volker has seen PHP grow and mature from PHP 3, working on long-living custom applications in high-traffic environments. From social networks to medical data processing, he has worked as an engineer, team lead, and Head of Engineering, mostly focusing on PHP, Go, C, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and System Operations. https://phpc.social/@edorian

Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. To learn more, visit https://socratescafe.com.

**Sessions**
**Title: Running a RAG locally**
**Summary:** In this session, we will walk through how to design and deploy a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system running fully on local infrastructure. We’ll cover key components such as embeddings, vector databases, and local LLMs, and discuss trade-offs between performance, cost, and privacy. Attendees will gain a practical understanding of how to build secure and efficient AI systems without relying on external APIs.
**Title: MongoDB MCP**
**Summary:** This talk introduces MongoDB’s role within the Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem, enabling AI models and agents to interact seamlessly with live data. We’ll explore how MCP standardizes communication between models and tools, and how MongoDB can be used to store, retrieve, and manage structured and unstructured data in real time. Practical use cases and integration patterns will be demonstrated.
**Title: Long-term memory for agents**
**Summary:** As AI agents become more sophisticated, the need for persistent and meaningful memory becomes critical. In this session, we will explore different approaches to implementing long-term memory, including vector-based memory, structured storage, and hybrid architectures. We’ll also discuss challenges such as memory retrieval, relevance, and scalability, and how these impact real-world agent performance.
**Important:** This event will be held in Spanish / Este evento se realizará en español
Abecedari
Comencem per on vulguis: a, b, c…”
CBusData: The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
One does not simply build reports on OLTP data. Join us on an epic journey from the depths of raw, normalized tables to the shining halls of a well-modeled star schema fit for Power BI greatness. We will demystify the differences between OLTP and OLAP, walk through star schema vs snowflake (and why Power BI has a clear favorite), and show you the compression differences between normalized and columnar storage that will make you never look at an OLTP model the same way again.
We will cover the different types of dimensions, when to use them, and how to handle Slowly Changing Dimensions without losing your mind. You will leave knowing exactly how to identify a bad model, how to convert OLTP data into a clean star schema, and how to forge relationships that rule them all.
Whether you are a data wizard, a curious hobbit, or somewhere in between, your models will never be the same.
Zinfandel, Finally on a Friday
We have never until now featured Zinfandel, the ubiquitous California grape with the Dublin Wine MeetUp Group. At its best Zinfandel, is rich, voluptuous, with great depth of red and blue fruits. Jammy and hedonistic are common descriptions Each person should bring one bottle of an quality Zinfandel wine; be creative and quality conscious, with some bottle age if possible. Turley, Martinelli, Biale, Seghesio, Ridge, Hartford Bedrock, Carlisle, Klinker Brick, Frog's Leap, and anything from the Rockpile vineyard is likely to be very good to great. The Prisoner wines began as a Zinfandel blend. Also bring a protein based appetizer to share and **a wine glass for your personal use.** Cheese and meats are best with these wines. There will be a gas grill behind the clubhouse to grill.
We’ll gather at the Oak Creek clubhouse, where the Dublin Wine Group, hosted by Thom and supported by Timothy, will take it from there.
Come join us for a fantastic mix of great wine, food, and even better company! The evening wraps up at 10 PM.
**Please pay $10 at the door per person to cover the cost of the room rental and for the tableware, napkins, water and cups.**

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.
