Our tools make it easier than ever to jump straight into polished screens. But the faster we get to pixels, the easier it is to skip the part where we actually understand the problem. In this talk, Kato and Mieke from Humix show us where good old pen and paper still make a difference, bringing real stories from their daily practice and a few honest lessons on what changes when you take a moment to put the screen aside.

Expect practical takeaways, a little science on why your brain remembers what your hand writes, and one honest question: where do you still pick up a pen? Come ready to sketch.

Talk 2: Bringing Interfaces to Life: Getting Started with UX Animation

Today’s web and mobile applications are just as complex as desktop software. To keep users from feeling overwhelmed, motion design can elegantly visualize concepts and preserve context within tight layouts. Animation is also a powerful tool for brand personality — just think of how much Duolingo relies on its animated characters to delight users.

Join Sander, an animator and developer since 2008, as he breaks down how to get started with UX animation. You will learn which motion elements add real value (or a bit of cuteness) to your digital products. If you are already familiar with Figma’s Smart Animate, the new Timeline feature will take your skills to the next level. We will also explore how Lottie bridges the gap between motion software and modern UX workflows.
