When people think of ADHD, many symptoms come to mind: executive dysfunction, time blindness, difficulties with concentration, impulsivity. But what about hair pulling, skin picking, or nail biting?

Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs) are a group of conditions involving the uncontrollable urge to pull, pick or bite at your skin, hair or nails.

They are commonly done automatically, and are often tied to emotion (dys)regulation and sensory discomfort. Research suggests that around 40% of people with BFRBs also have an ADHD diagnosis, and the true overlap may be even higher.

In this session, we’ll hear more about BFRBs and their connections with ADHD, and then open things up for a relaxed Q&A.

Alone everything can be hard, together we can understand ourselves better and create the world we need and deserve, and have fun in the process.

Practicalities:
- This session will have a info-lecture format
- Bring your own food and drinks, share if you feel like (no alcohol)
- I will open the door as close as possible to 18:30 (I'm time blind)

  • Presentation from 19:10 to 19:50
  • Q&A from 19:50 to 20:20
    - We can continue the conversation until 21:00
    - This time, You can stay in the space until 21:00

About the speaker:

Caroline is the vice-chair of BFRB UK & Ireland, and moved to Amsterdam in 2024 to do PhD research in psychology. She will guide us through BFRBs and how they are connected with ADHD, both through the lens of psychology but also her own experiences of living with both conditions.
