AI code quality & developing for desktop @ DPG Media
Details
Here comes a fresh new Android meetup!
DAUG is meeting at DPG Media in Amsterdam this month to nerd out about Android development once again. Vik and Hugo will present two great talks on code quality in the age of AI and what it takes to get your app ready for desktop. Join us to learn more about these topics and meet fellow Android developers in person.
Looking forward to meeting you all and maybe hearing about what you learned at Droidcon this month.
Agenda:
17:30: Doors open, food & drinks
18:20: Introductions
18:30: Vik Purcallas: Who Checks the Code AI Writes?
19:15: Short break
19:30: Hugo Visser: Taking your app to the desktop
20:15: Networking & Drinks
21:00: Closing
Vik Purcallas, Android Developer @ DPG Media
Who Checks the Code AI Writes?
More and more of our code is written by AI. But who checks its quality, and how? At DPG Media, Vik has spent a year trying to answer that. It began with a hackathon and four hard lessons about letting LLMs judge code, and turned into quodeq, an open-source tool that evaluates code against ISO 25010 and CWE. In this talk, Vik will walk us through the traps they found, the benchmark that showed what works and what doesn't, how their Android teams have started using it, and how they plan to use it on a migration built almost entirely with AI. You'll leave with a practical way to keep quality under control when the AI is doing the typing.

Taking your app to the desktop
Android apps can run on all kinds of devices, but how do you actually build an app that (initially) primarily targets a desktop environment? In this talk, we go deeper into what it takes to build an app that runs on all devices from a real-life project, the Fantastical calendar app, that just launched on Googlebook. In particular, we’ll look at windowed or desktop mode and devices that look more like laptops than phones. What’s the same? What is different? We’ll talk about the various ingredients, or libraries, that are helpful new additions to Compose for adaptive apps and what might still be missing, and how you can approach building your app in such a way that it can support all the form factors Android has to offer.
How to get there?
There are two metro stations near Mediavaert building: Van der Madeweg Station and Overamstel Station. It is a 12-minute walk to Mediavaert from both stations.
Don’t use the main entrance; instead, use the side entrance for the event location.
Car Parking
Limited parking available on the street around the office. Free after 18:00
