Wat we doen
There is plenty of room in the gender gap in tech to make a difference. After all it's called a gap for a reason. It's because of this, I organise Girl Code meetups and try to raise more awareness for the gender gap in code: meetups for coders and everyone interested in code (yes everyone, men are welcome too).

When you attend the meetups you agree we, photographers of Girl Code and the host company, can take pictures of you and these pictures may be shared on all Girl Code's and the organizer's websites and social media channels publicly. Also when I showcase Girl Code at other events or in the media I can choose to publish such a picture.

Women as technology
It's high time to meet up again! And we're lucky, Girl Code founder Ineke Scheffers has worked on the exhibition Vrouwen als technologie as a consulting expert in the board for it for Design Museum Den Bosch. Anne-Karlijn van Kesteren, the curator, wants to support this get together in her museum by offering us 10 free tickets to the exhibition.
We hope you will be joining us for this fun day!Why do virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa and Cortana often have a woman’s name and ditto voice? Why was the computing power of computers in the 1940s expressed in girl hours? And should we be worried about the development of sex robots and AI girlfriends?
The Women as Technology exhibition explores the intersection of femininity and technology through pole-dancing robots, quasi-erotic anatomical models and kitchens designed especially for women. Meet ELIZA, the first therapeutic chatbot from the 1960s, or Nancy, the stitching lady robot from 1910 who gracefully blinks her eyes and chastely crosses her ankles.
Through more than 200 objects, the exhibition shows that technology is rarely neutral and always reflects prevailing social views, especially when it comes to women. Women as Technology is an exhibition for tech fanatics, feminists, design lovers and anyone who has ever wondered why technology is really such a man’s thing.
