Book discussion: The Subject and Power by Michel Foucault
Details
Our next discussion is on Michel Foucault's The Subject and Power.
Michel Foucault (1926–1984) was a leading French philosopher and historian of ideas in the post–World War II period. His work explores the relationships between power, knowledge, and discourse, particularly how social institutions — such as prisons, hospitals, and schools — wield them as a form of social control.
We will be discussing his essay The Subject and Power in which Foucault analyses power as a relational force — rather than something possessed or imposed from above — that shapes how individuals act and become subjects.
