Live Jazz (& Blues) Meetup Group

Let's go catch some classic jazz, bebop, and more from the excellent saxophonist Patrick Wolff and his quartet! For this show, Patrick is joined by Keith Saunders, piano; Erik Markowitz, bass; and Smith Dobson, drums -- all local names that Meetup regulars are likely to recognize from various combos' past events over the years in San Francisco, the East Bay, and beyond.

EVENT COST: $20 cover charge for the show, collected upon entry to the bookstore (no advance ticket sales). CASH only for the cover charge. In addition, if you haven't donated recently to offset the $180.00 per year that Meetup charges me as lead organizer, I welcome $1.00 donations from Meetup RSVPers (via cash or PayPal).

SEATING is general-admission, on folding chairs with cushions. (The musicians are on a slightly raised stage, providing decent sightlines.) You may BYOB, but no food is allowed inside the store.

IMPORTANT: Concertgoers need to call Bird & Beckett at 415-586-3733 to request a seat for themselves. (You can mention that you're with Paula's Meetup group, but it's not necessary to do so.) After you have heard back from the store that you have a reservation, please let me know so that I have a good idea of how many Meetup attendees to expect.

WHEN/WHERE TO MEET: Unless joining me for the optional pre-show dinner, meet outside the bookstore no later than 7:10 p.m. Please allow extra time for transit or parking, since latecomers risk forfeiting their seats to other people in line. (The concert is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., and will likely go to at least 9:30 p,m.)

TRANSIT/PARKING: The bookstore is located less than two blocks from the Glen Park BART station and Muni bus lines (and about one block from two ATMs) in an attractive commercial/residential neighborhood. Parking is on the street.

OPTIONAL PRE-SHOW DINNER at 6:00 p.m. at a good Thai restaurant across the street from Glen Park BART station. The headcount for the dinner is limited to six people (with preference to Meetup members who don't have a habit of flaking out on their rsvps). I'll happily accommodate additional people for the concert itself. When RSVPing for the concert, please indicate if you're interested in the dinner as well (as space allows).

Known partly for her hit single What's Up with 4 Non Blondes, Linda Perry has reinvented herself as a songwriter and producer in the decades since that song topped the charts, penning hits for artists like Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera and Pink. This 2024 film offers an intimate look at a woman who dreams big, yet still struggles with fear, identity and family, as she grapples with the same big question we all do: Who am I?

This screening includes a Q&A with Linda Perry and director Don Hardy, as well as a special acoustic performance by Perry. Given all that, I think this screening will sell out.

COST: Lowest-priced tickets for this show start at about $15 per person.

This quintet consists of East Coast-based flutist and vocalist Rebecca Kleinmann in collaboration with percussionist-cuatro player Jackeline Rago, guitarist Carlos Caminos, percussionist Marlon Aldana, and bassist Bil Hager. I'm expecting a range of original compositions and arrangements drawing on Venezuelan music, Brazilian folkloric rhythms, flamenco, and more.

CONCERT COST: Ticket prices range from about $28 to $33, including the online service fee. NOTE that there are currently a limited number of discounted tickets available (at the approximately $28 price), for seniors, students, and "early bird" buyers.

TICKETS/SEATING: Buy your own tickets. General admission seating, mainly on folding chairs.

NOTE: This is a small venue; the discounted tickets could sell out prior to the concert date.
