Should do what some of the Broadway shows do, which is to leave a section open (not RSVP-able) for low/no cost for people who are willing to show up 30 minutes early and wait in line.

Also, to penalize no-shows charge a premium up front ($25?) and you get $10 credited back to your account if you show up and check in.

I haven't been to a meetup since 2007/8 because the RSVPs are so hard to come by.

with ~800 capacity. And getting larger and larger venues becomes more
expensive meaning the ticket price would likely go up, which might
reduce the demand. Better to be sold out and fiscally sound then make
everyone who wants to get in happy and risk losing money.
