My concern, however, is how secure Windows 10 is compared to previous versions...not to mention compatibility with software built on earlier platforms...

windows has always been a disastrous train wreck. even the ones that were "stable" were mediocre half baked at best. plenty of other reliable rock solid platforms to choose.
