Gdansk Open Source Meetup #6

Szczegóły
Gdansk Open Source Meetup series is finally back with its 6th iteration. Be sure to book some time in your calendar on Thursday, October 24th. As always, you can expect two technical talks, a Q&A session and of course a socializing & networking afterparty till late.
See you soon!
Agenda:
1. Overview of build systems used in open source projects; Kamil Rakoczy, Antmicro
The more a software project grows, the harder it gets to keep it well-organised. Software is often split across a multitude of source files and header files with a certain hierarchy and relationship that needs to be preserved and transparent. At some point, it can get near impossible to keep track of all these files, the targets to which they can be compiled as well as their required flags and attributes by hand.
Build systems solve this problem by providing a way to easily define relationships and configurations needed for complex projects.
In this talk we’ll take you on a journey through the history of build systems, show you how it all started and what problems newer build systems were promising to solve.
We’ll show examples of open source projects that use various build systems as well as help you choose the best build system for your next open source project.
2. Deploying distributed applications with ROS 2; Jan Bylicki, Antmicro
The Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2) is a set of tools and libraries designed to implement distributed, complex, and coordinated systems of applications which share data between each other. While its proposed use was to aid in programming robots, the framework gets deployed in a variety of complex scenarios. Thanks to its intuitive and modular programming model, coordinating a large deployment can be split across multiple smaller programs. The presentation will provide insight into the ROS 2 ecosystem — what the communication models are and how to configure them, how to implement ROS 2 nodes in an easy-to-deploy and scalable way, and how to run and analyze entire multi-node applications.
