Reclaim Pride protest march+picnic (by Peter Tatchell Foundation)

Detalhes

The Peter Tatchell Foundation's Reclaim Pride march is about Pride as a Protest and a celebration. Not selling out to commercial interests and sponsorship.

⚫ Where / What to bring:
Meet 1pm, Parliament Square. Please wear a face mask and keep socially distanced on the march. Bring food, drink, music for the protest/picnic if you're staying. Maybe something thin but waterproof if it rains/to sit on.

⚫ Wear!
Besides a mask, wearing or bringing Bisexual/Pansexual/your identity pride colours, flags, badges, and/or face paint sticks — or a pride-themed mask, may make you new similarly identifying friends from random conversation, or an opportunity to educate others, and increase bi visibility; show we are (and always have been) part of LGBT+ rights movements:
Bi=pink, lavender, blue;
Pan=hotter pink,yellow,cyan blue.

John often brings some of those things and a couple bi/trans umbrellas, for sale to help cover group costs. Want some on the day (assuming I attend)? Find me (look for a bi pride umbrella/ask others in group!) — card/cash. For specific items let me know in advance/check out options at our store (just a basic online shop, in-person is easier/you can see it) so I can know to bring enough / tell you if I can't:

⚫ Protest March Aims
A primary focus of this march is to ask Boris to "stop stalling on LGBTI+ rights" (e.g. on conversion therapy, which was promised by this government, and that anti-trans campaigners want to water down). There are no fees or wristbands. Just turn up.

⚫ March route:

Not expecting the march to start until at least 2pm (a guess), maybe later; but arrive well before then to meet up before its so crowded and prepare (placards, body/facepaint, making sure valuables secure, drink etc.); be ready to sit and wait.

After marching from Parliament Square up Whitehall past Downing Street to Trafalgar Square, the crowd will pause at the Uganda High Commission in Trafalgar Square, to respectively protest against the government’s stalling on LGBT+ rights and Uganda’s persecution of LGBT+ people.
The #ReclaimPride march will then take a similar route to the UK first ‘Gay Pride’ march in 1972:

  • Cockspur Street
  • Lower Regent Street
  • Regent Street
  • Oxford Street
  • finally entering Hyde Park at Speaker’s Corner.

The march has 5 key demands:

  • five key LGBT+ liberation demands:

  • Ban LGBT+ conversion therapy

  • Reform the Gender Recognition Act

  • Safe haven for LGBT+ refugees

  • Decriminalisation of LGBT+ people worldwide

  • Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

⚫ Picnic:
A mass “queer picnic” will then ensue in Hyde Park, just like in 1972. Bring suitable food, hydration, and music for your own DIY party!
