Speaking in public is not easy for most people, nor is running a workshop, writing a speech, thinking on your feet, or even speaking up amongst friends. At POWERtalk you will learn how to gain the confidence to step up to speak up. We've seen it many times over. The Great World of the title refers to the setting of "The Great World", a fairground in occupied Singapore serving as a Japanese prison camp, where the protagonists meet. It also refers to the mind "the same shape as the world, and really was the world, only on an infinitely small scale", as one character observes. The two main characters' relationship is central as the men feel out their stance to each other. The New Yorker calls it "a rare serious novel... (with) an elliptical sense of time... render(ing) it poetic." Since starting this book club a few years ago we have formed a nice core membership. If you haven't come yet, please look out for the books on the table, pull up a chair, order a wine and join us. We like to hear what everyone has to say and enjoy the conversation, we're not cliquey at all! Meet people from many countries and make new friends. 👉We always have between 100 - 150 people attending our Tuesday event since this event is listed in 3 different meetup groups. Family can be a source of deep joy, belonging and connection. It can also be a site of pain, grief, tension and complexity. Many of us carry experiences that are difficult to navigate or make sense of, especially on our own. This is a space and time where what you’re carrying can be gently held and supported through the creative process, conversation, and being witnessed alongside others on a similar journey. We will begin by arriving together, with a short guided meditation and introduction. We will then have some quiet time to explore through creative expression. This could look like making marks, painting, tearing, cutting, writing, moving or simply sitting. You are welcome to engage in any way that feels right and needed for you. Afterwards, we will open up the space for a guided conversation but sharing is optional- you can speak, ask questions, listen or just be present. Materials are provided but please feel free to bring your own. No creative experience or skill required at all. # Annual Plant Sale ## Hosted by Licking County Master Gardener Volunteers **Saturday, May 9| 8:30AM - 3:00 PM | inside the Learning Garden, Newark** Join us for this beloved annual tradition where gardening meets community support! The Licking County Master Gardener Volunteers are hosting their annual Plant Sale to fund their 2026 public outreach and educational initiatives. ### 🌱 Plant Sale Highlights * **Perennials** for sunny and shady garden spots * **Herbs and houseplants** for indoor enjoyment * **Tomato and pepper varieties** with expert planting advice * **Native plants** 14 varieties of tomatoes and 11 varieties of peppers, Perennials, herbs, annuals, and lots of native plants will be for sale - and more! ### 🌲 Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District (LCSWCD) will be celebrating their "Backyard Conservation Day" alongside the plant sale.
