Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: Nov 13-15 Orcas play weekend - kayak, bike, run, hike or just relax as you like

When: November 13,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Anacortes Ferry Terminal
2100 Ferry Terminal Rd
Anacortes, WA 98221

This is one of my fall escapes to the San Juans with the outdoor toys for a little R&R trips. While we are using the Yes, Maybe or No on the RSVP's to indicate interest, the actual thing that determines if you get a space is your deposit check. While I will try to add more cabins if their is enough interest, once the trip is full based on deposit checks, I will change the RSVP's to "No" for everyone else. I have an 8 and a 6 person cabin reserved at Doe Bay Resort for both Friday and Saturday nights and will add another one if needed. Rooms are a mix of bunk style and double beds, so if you aren't bringing a partner and want to make sure your personal space is defined, bring a sleeping bag as the their aren't very many single bunks.

Carpooling - I'll leave downtown at 3pm and leave my house at 4:15pm, so if you want to ride with me, let me know.

I expect the cost to be about $90-$100 per person including lodging and the cost of my bringing the kayaks on my roof.

Deposit checks are non refundable and are for $60 sent to my PO Box: Saul Kinderis, PO box 2221 , Bothell, Wa 98041

Food is group meals and we each get assigned a meal or two to buy food for and prepare.

While the cabins have cookware, plates, bowls and utensils with this big of a group we will probably run out, so bring a plate, a fork, spoon and cup. The cabins are scenic and very clean but rustic.

Everyone should bring their hiking boots or running shoes as well as bikes and kayaks and I'll will bring some extra kayaks as well. Paddling will probably have to be in groups of 10 or less as the overheight or overlength charges on the ferry are quite spendy, If you can carry kayaks on your roof rack let me know as it will simplify logistics.
We'll do group meals, taking turns cooking.

It's a beautiful, relaxing place and two of our cabins are right next to the water. You can come outside and play or bring a good book and sit by the window or in the hot tubs. I'll post carpool and specific ferry information and update the meeting time as we get closer to the day.

We'll probably shoot for the 6:00pm and 9:30pm ferries for most of the group. It's about a one hour ferry ride and about 45 minute drive to Doe Bay from the Orcas ferry terminal. Their is pay parking at the lot if you want to drive up and then walk on and catch a ride with others. It usually takes a little over two hours to get from Seattle to Anacortes on a Friday and if you cut it too close they may not load you. That means leave by 3:30 for the 6:00 and by 7:15 for the 9:30.

Some things to remember to pack:
outdoor gear and sports equipment
tioletries
plate, bowl, spoon, fork and cup - since we'll probably run out
earplugs - with a group this big, someone is bound to snore
sleeping bag if you're not used to shared beds
book to read
board games
cards
camera
food for the meal that you're listed as being responsible for in the list above
your favorite beverage
headlamp or flashlight - as one of the cabins as well as the tubs and sauna are off through the woods a bit
sense of adventure
sense of humor ;-)

Cabin and meal assignments, we still have room for 3-4 more people - I haven't been by my PO Box yet. Assuming that I've received checks, here are the assignments:

You should email your meal team members to work out menus. We have several vegtarians, and one vegan that I am aware of. That means meat dishes are out, unless you add meat at a last step for a partial batch. It also means no animal products like butter, cheese or eggs (unless you make some type of a split batch, some with some without). I've heard that Bulgarians don't know how to cook without cream ;-), I'll guess we'll find out this weekend ;-).
If you stick to cooking with vegatables and oils made from plants you should be fine, lentildishes are pretty common as are soy dishes, it's fun to learn new ways to cook. If you need my help in meal planning give me a call or email me.
