All riders should bring their own hydration and nutrition, as well as a spare inner tube. *** Please, no music that can be heard by other riders or ear headphones that impede your hearing. French Duck a la Presse and more at The Simon at Reston Station!
French Duck a la Presse and more at The Simon at Reston Station!
Join us in closing out 2025 with a wonderful evening at The Simon in Reston! **NOTE #1: If you wish to try the Duck a la Presse, please send a message in Meetup when you confirm your spot so that we may we notify the restaurant in advance. This dish is $126 and serves 2 people.** **NOTE #2: Restaurant will NOT generate separate checks for our group. Please be prepared to settle up with cash, Paypal / Venmo / Zelle. Thank you in advance for your understanding.** **ABC 7 News:** A taste of France in Virginia: New restaurant offers century-old Duck a la Presse The Duck a la Presse reaches all the way back to France, over a century ago. The French cuisine that originated in the early 1800s in France was once usually enjoyed by France's most elite. "Chefs would take the ducks and carve them tableside, break them down and process them through a duck press to extract the blood and juices to finish the sauce at the table.," Executive Chef Anthony DiGregorio (The Watergate Hotel, Café Boulud Palm Beach) told 7News. However, since gaining popularity over time, the duck dish has made it's way into the states and at The Simon at Reston Station in Reston, Va. "People are bringing back those old school cooking techniques and its the ability to do a table side and bring an experience to the guest," DiGregorio said. The Dry aged Duck a la Presse (for 2) is a Honey lavender glazed Jurgielewicz duck, roasted red beets, foraged mushrooms, red wine poached pear, sauce civet, according to DiGregorio. It is a multi-step process including carving, pressing tableside. The duck, which is raised at a farm in Pennsylvania, is dry-aged for about two weeks, adding flavor, texture and age onto the duck. It is then cooked in a charcoal oven. While the Duck a la Presse has made a comeback, the price for the equipment can be pretty hefty. According to Tasting Table, duck presses, depending on the metal, can range from almost $2,200 to $4,000. For a fancier option, the French maker Ercuis produces a silver-plated Duck Press Grand Hotel that could be yours for a mere €17,600 ($18,700). Two people can enjoy the traditional and historical dish for $126. **Northern Virginia Magazine:** The Simon opened September 16, unveiling a glamorous dining experience that blends global refinement with Mid-Atlantic roots. At the helm are Executive Chef Anthony DiGregorio (The Watergate Hotel, Café Boulud Palm Beach) and Executive Pastry Chef Claus Olsen (Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, The Mayfair Hotel London), who are reimagining regional cuisine with creativity and flair. Standout dishes include dry-aged duck à la presse infused with lavender from DiGregorio’s garden, Pennsylvania golden chicken with brioche stuffing, and pan-seared local rockfish with sauce vin jaune. Dessert delights with indulgences such as a Virginia chess pie or the almond crunch bar, while a tableside cheese cart presents the largest Murray’s Cheese selection outside of New York. “Every element of The Simon has been designed so our guests can appreciate the best of the region,” DiGregorio said in a release. “We’ve partnered with local farmers, fishers, and artisans who share our respect for the land’s bounty, and pairing that with craftsmanship, service, and storytelling, will make each dining experience memorable.” Next door, the Schar Bar steals the spotlight with the area’s most extensive amaro collection, rare-bourbon program, inventive cocktails, as well as appealing noshes like oysters, caviar, and Appalachian sour corn hushpuppies. Looking forward to sharing this experience with you! ***Check out menus*** Dinner Menu [here](https://www.thesimonrestonstation.com/menus/#dinner) Cocktails Menu [here ](https://www.thesimonrestonstation.com/menus/#cocktails) Wine Menu [here](https://www.thesimonrestonstation.com/menus/#wines) Dessert Menu [here](https://www.thesimonrestonstation.com/menus/#dessert) We ask that ALL folks honor their RSVP. Clifton Tree Rescue
Clifton Tree Rescue
This is the first of what we plan to be twice monthly tree-rescue events of the Clifton Tree Rescuers (although this particular event is in Fairfax Station). We will be cutting Asian Wisteria vines to save the trees from being strangled and smothered. This is fun and very gratifying work - you can see the results right away! Please fill out [the registration form here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeasjEcOQm5v8afwJdriU65Wj8-Q0DetQy4HRKiFNwgwFPy7Q/viewform?usp=dialog) to give us your emergency contact information, acknowledge the risks of outdoor work, and be sent the address where we will meet. Please dress appropriately in clothes that you don't mind getting snagged by thorns: closed-toe shoes, long pants, long-sleeved shirts, hat, and work gloves. If you have loppers, clippers, or pruning saws (no power tools), please bring them, although we will have extra.
A DC meetup at Dumbarton Oaks
A DC meetup at Dumbarton Oaks
PawsUP for David and Brick for originally suggesting this awesome meetup and our dogs love it! -Dumbarton Oaks/Montrose Park in Georgetown -Meet at the entrance off of R st, on the East side (closer to the cemetery) -Plenty of street parking in the area -Bring water and a ball for your Aussie This park is a very large open field, that is very dog friendly. Tons of space to run and chase. Most if not all dogs are off leash. Occasional runners and kids (there is a playground), so keep that in mind. There is also a trail inside with a stream that the dogs love to play in.

Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other! For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run. Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Here are links to the change.org petition and the Facebook page where you can get updates. Shirlington Dog Park Page Petition: https://www.change.org/.../arlington-county-board-save... Every Samoyed enthusiast is welcome! **The event will happen -- regardless of the weather. **Our Samoyeds are winter weatherproof! We encourage the wearing of jingle bells on the dogs and other festive attire! The food kiosks on the Mall should be open and they serve hot beverages. CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
Start the New Year off right! Join us as we get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event to distribute food at the Champion Food Pantry! We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers. PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm. LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. Parking is located in the lot on Frebis across from the pantry. Please enter through the door marked "Volunteers enter here” on Frebis Ave. A map has been uploaded to the photos. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing the majority of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. No shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will mak you ineligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. LINKS & INFO: Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: • Champion Food Pantry Civil Rights Training: Attached file. • Champion Food Pantry Parking and Entrance: Attached file. • Champion Food Pantry Orientation Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0wI-AwOYLY • Link with Additional Details / Info: https://lss.vomo.org/opportunity/foodpantrieschampion THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others in our community! But the benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering can provide a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need. PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities. Thanks for your help and look forward to seeing you there, Dan

Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) If the weather is nice we will be on the back patio, otherwise we are in the cigar room. This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us. COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant. *** Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?! You may not know it, but we are! We're in your schools, diners, police force, military, government, and some are even still in your churches! So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'! Vision: a Central Ohio that accepts atheism as a viable alternative in all areas of public and private life. Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio. Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision. Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
