One year ago yesterday, the first #140conf event took place in New York City. I had no idea in the days leading up to #140conf NYC that a year later I would announcing a very special #140conf event taking place in Detroit on October 20, 2010.
Last week I had the pleasure to visit Detroit and to meet with some of the people who are working together in the reboot of the city. There is something special happening in Detroit and it is my hope friends will meet me in Detroit and agree to be part of #140conf Detroit and find ways to contribute to it.
I am looking for first-hand accounts of how the real-time web is being used and the impact it is happening in the industry sectors this event will end up focusing on. My goal is to bring together a curated group of characters to both lead and contribute to the discussions. And by now I hope you know this event isn?t just about twitter. Open for discussion are all platforms and applications which are effecting and contributing to the real-time internet experience.
The delegates attending #140conf Detroit will have the unique and very special opportunity to connect with a community of people who are working together in the rebooting of a major American city. Unlike all of the previous #140conf events to date, this event is being created from the bottom up with the help of an energized group of people who care about the city of Detroit. These are the people and who individually and collectively are contributing to the rebirth of the city.
I am holding out hope to once again attract a diverse gathering of people who will come to Detroit to connect with others and to share their perspectives, their experiences and their stories about how the emerging real-time Internet is effecting their industry sectors and the people inside them. My hope is to also provide a platform for the people from both Detroit and from across Michigan whose collective efforts are being felt in Detroit.
I thank both Buick and Gardner-White for coming forward as sponsors for this event. I look forward to welcoming additional sponsors in the weeks ahead.
So please, think about what YOU could contribute to the dialog, and who you may know who would be interested in being part of this event. I would appreciate your help in making #140conf Detroit happen. Our speaking deadline is July 9th. Please visit: http://140.vg/speakat140
to submit your speaking proposal.
Best regards, Jeff
