This group is for First-Time-Mommies - whether you are still trying to conceive, or you are counting down the days till your first baby's arrival.
I am a 26 year-old married, living in the Orlando Area. We found out October 7th that we are expecting our first child - due in June 2010!! We are SO excited! I have never been so happy to be so nauseous in my life!
We did not have to try very long, but I am familiar with the frustration and disappointment of having to wait on your body. My Husband and I learned 2 years ago that I had contracted HPV and the disease was rapidly producing cancerous cells on the outer wall of my cervix. We went through a very frightening and challenging year of tests and biopsies, all the time being told we would probably need to have a procedure done to remove the cells that may jeopardize our ability to carry a child full-term, or even to concieve. We spent a year leaning heavily on the support of our church and our family, fighting to hold on to our life-long dream of becoming pregnant and having children. In November of 2008, I went in for my last biopsy and the doctor came in to surprisingly report to me that the abnormal cells were just gone - she couldn't explain it, they were just gone. I had my 6-month check-up in May, and we got insurance a couple months later, and now we are hot-on-the-trail of Mommy-and-Daddy-dom!!
I know that what got me through that period of our life was my faith, and the love and support I received from my church community and the relationships I have there. I want to share that love and support and community with other women who are dealing with the frustration of negative pregnancy tests month after month, as well as health and infertility problems. Our hubbies, try as they may, can provide lots of desperately needed love and support, but when it comes down to it, women need women.
The goal of this group is more relationship-based than event-based, although we will definitely be doing lots of "fun" Mommy/Girly stuff. The purpose is to provide an environment that is safe, encouraging, supportive, fun and even educational; and where meaningful and lasting relationships can be born (as well as babies!!).
If you are looking for friends to share this season (whether of trying or being prego)...you should join! If you are looking for community and encouragement in your first-time mommy-hood...you should join! If you are looking for a way to learn about everything new that's out there for "baby", what you should eat, how you should exercise, which doctor or hospital is right for you, how to make "trying" more fun for you and your hubby...YOU SHOULD JOIN!!
Rebecca Oliver has suggested a Sunday morning brunch on Sunday, Dec 6th at Toojays in Altamonte Springs. In case anyone needs directions, you can reach Rebecca Oliver at 407-350-0202. The Too-Jays is
