Hike Hickory Run State Park & lunch on Boulder Field

We will use the Hawk Run parking area that is located on Route 534 in Albrightsville, PA.  The parking area is about 1 1/4 miles West of the Albrightsville Fire Department on Route 534.  It's gravel parking on both sides of the road.  If you drive under the Turnpike overpass then you've gone too far.

Please arrive on time - 10:30am to 10:45am, as we will begin walking around 11am.

This hike will take about 5 to 6 hrs (hiking + breaks) and be about 7 miles round trip.  When we get back to the cars we have the option to hike another shorter trail to a waterfall if we're feeling it. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, bug spray, yadda yadda yadda.  Also pack a good lunch, as we will eat on the Boulder Field, or some other scenic spot.

It will be a long (but good) day with a significant amount of driving - about 2 1/2 hrs from the New Brunswick area.  Then 2 1/2 hrs back home after a day of hiking.  Maybe longer depending on your location.  So set aside an entire day for this meetup and arrange for your transportation so you arrive on time.

The Boulder Field is quite an experience, to walk on, and for photos.  See pic below.

And here is a waterfall we might visit after the main hike, if we feel like a short walk.

Of course this hike is weather dependent, so if the weather looks "iffy" the morning of the event then be sure to check this page for a possible cancellation.

Please respect the Waitlist, everyone who is on it, and attend only if a spot opens for you on the Yes list, so I can keep the size manageable. Thanks! :)

Anyone coming from around or close to New Brunswick? I am willing to share expenses for gas, though I don't have a license.

As of this moment (Thurs) I see you're still on the Waitlist so it may be premature to make carpooling plans.

i am considering doing this hike. but is there a logical reason why there is a waitlist?

With bigger groups people stray (w/o notice) get separated, which becomes a hassle for everyone. At Plainsboro Preserve a girl & her BF left unannounced because her back hurt (texted me later). Also at Plainsboro while I was in back gathering stragglers a guy at the front came to an intersection, would not wait for the group to re-gather, made his own decision to lead people behind him on a route different than the plan, separating the group. At Sourlands a guy & his friend disappeared - texted me later that his allergies had bothered him. At Turkey Swamp a girl disappeared during the hike - she mentioned to someone that she was going to look for a friend that had arrived late and texted her from the parking lot - from what I heard later they got lost, but eventually made their way back. Even with a "sweeper" person at the back, people stray or leave. Smaller groups are easier in the tight woods of PA.

I'm a maybe at the moment. I've hiked there before and loved this boulder field. It is definitely a fun experience. One side note, be very careful on those boulders, just one wrong step is enough to fall and twist/break an ankle.

Sounds like fun. The boulder field seems interesting, apparently its over 12 feet deep!
