Contra Dancing at The Grange

I could try to explain contra dancing but It would be much better to go and try it out! Think line dancing but with groups of 4 and instead lots of swinging! Its live folk music and they teach you the steps to each song/dance slowly before actually starting. Its very easy to learn, loads of fun, and everyone there is very friendly (they'll help you out if you get confused). Its also pretty casual, no big dress up but girls usually like wearing skirts to spin in. :)

Also you usually tip them $8-10 to get in.

Theres a beginner thing around 8-8:30 where its not as crowded, most people usually come around 8:45.

Update: my bud who invited me to Montreal has cancelled going so I should be able to go contra dancing after all

Guys I feel badly, even a little guilty as I almost never cancel when I sign up for an event but a last minute opportunity has arisen for a free trip to "La Nuit Blanche" -- Montreal's Mardi Gras and I can't resist going. I am def up for attending contra dancing on another upcoming Saturday and hope you guys will have a fantastic time even without me ;)

This sounds like so much fun!!! Should we wear sneakers?

I haven't done it before, Ashley may be able to advise you better but I'd wear whatever you think would be most comfortable for dancing

Wear whatever feels comfortable! (I dance bare foot)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
