3D Printing Mini Conference

Details

Open 3D Community is holding another 3D Printing Conference on Saturday, February 7th, and you don't want to miss this one! The theme for this month is "3D Printing on a Budget". We have gathered three amazing guest speakers to demo lots of free and/or open source software applications you can use to create your 3d printed items. Also, Shapeways will be here to show some options for people wanting to try a 3d printing service. The conference is FREE but we will be accepting donations on this meetup page or at the event.

1PM 3D BUILDER & SCANNING WITH A KINECT V2 BY EMMETT LALISH

3D Builder is a free Microsoft application that can be used with a Kinect for Windows v2 sensor to scan models for 3D Printing. You can use 3D Builder to create, print, and now scan in 3D. In this demo see how you can scan yourself and your friends in color using Kinect for Windows. Don’t have a 3D printer? No problem! Microsoft has partnered with 3D Systems so that you can order a professional-quality print online. 3D Builder makes it easy to personalize models by embossing with text and images, trimming and combining, and adding color. Emmett is an aerospace engineer, and a few years back he took up 3D printing as a hobby. He taught himself OpenSCAD because it made more sense to him than regular CAD. Emmett designed some fun, mostly mathematical sculptures and mechanisms and posted them on Thingiverse. Somehow that lead to a sudden career shift, from designing drones to working on 3D printing at Microsoft. See Emmett's work here: http://www.thingiverse.com/emmett/about
