Hi everyone, The people who run the Kinect Accelerator are interested in getting to know the local Kinect hacking community better. We've talked and decided to do a joint meetup. We'll have a series of attendees speak about their projects followed by a presentation and Q&A by the Kinect Accelerator team.
If you're interested in giving a presentation, please let me know what you'd like to talk about. Presentations should be no longer than 10 minutes. Both technical and nontechnical presentations are welcome as long as they relate to 3D vision.
Microsoft will be providing food (pizza) and drinks.
Current schedule:
6:30 - doors open
7:15 - Microsoft presentation on Kinect Accelerator
7:45 - Microsoft presentation on Kinect for Windows
8:15 - Attendee demos
9:30 - Wrap-up
Current attendee speakers;
- Matt Bell
- Kate Compton
- Amir Hirsch
- Tim Thompson
- Lyona Carter
Note that the venue (RocketSpace) is different from our usual SF venue, but it is easily accessed by both car and by BART.

Here's some more information about the Kinect Accelerator:
If you are a developer or existing team/startup focused on building a business that takes advantage of the Kinect and Natural User Interface technologies, then we want to talk to you about how you can turn those innovations into a business. During this one-time event will give you a deeper overview of what the Kinect Accelerator will be like and what you could expect if you get accepted into this highly competitive program. The Kinect Accelerator is selecting 10 companies worldwide for a three month, mentor driven accelerator in Seattle, WA. Each company will receive $20,000 in investment, an Xbox development kit, Kinects for Xbox and Windows, and technical support. Each company will showcase their solution to VC's, angel investors, game studios, and influentials at the end of the program at a Demo Day event.
During this tour you'll learn how to maximize your chances of being accepted and you'll have the opportunity to meet with the program's Managing Director and tell him about your business. We encourage you to apply by the early application deadline of January 25th so we can review your application in advance. This is also your chance to get a look at the brand new Kinect for Windows and ask your questions about it to Microsoft experts. We'll be giving away units to two lucky winners. You can learn more about the program and apply at KinectAccelerator.com.
Sorry I was unable to make it at the last minute. Will someone be putting up any comments about the meetup and perhaps a list of the apps presented?
Is there anyone in the group who has made Matlab work with Kinect? I have had a real challenge with that and I have a demo I would like to do on Tuesday. Would anybody be interested in some consulting?
Thank you for the great participation - I definitely loved the demos. Keep the photos coming - post them if you have them. I'm on the meetup here, so let me know if you have any questions regarding the Kinect Accelerator or Microsoft in general.
@Dave Drach -- thanks for sponsoring! I just added some more photos.
The presentation were pleasant, however not much different than what was already on the website.
Respectfully, it was disappointing. There were three attempts to move forward with Kinect Accelarator team. I came I tried, based on experience at this meeting. There was a lack of professional courtesy or care.
I regret having recommend the Kinect as a solution to key officials. I will make an official report to state government officials, based on the experience at this meeting.
Kenneth
I am sorry to hear you were disappointed and take your concerns and issues very seriously. Please send me an email so that I can followup with you directly and better understand what happened. I look forward to discussing this with you.
Best.

@Dave, I will give it one more try. The immediate requests and events have been received and approved from executives in areas of health care, education and digital entertainment, in regards to Kinect software developer groups
I'm so sorry that I'm missing this - I'm over at Trucar for Ruby hack night. Very interested to hear how the evening goes!
