Just as JRR Tolkien has captivated audiences around the world with the fabled "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, so too has Ming Dynasty-author Luo Guanzhong, from his tales of political and martial intrigue in the chronicles of the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms."
The Loremasters of Three Kingdoms is for the readers, the hobbyists, enthusiasts, and the followers of this legendary classic which has transcended into motion pictures, animated series, video games, and fan fiction.
If you are such a party, we welcome you to join us and meet up with others once a week to discuss topics, themes, debates, and the oft-liked what-if scenarios within the Three Kingdoms realm.
Some activities we hope to plan out for the 2011 year:
General Reading and Discussion
Each meet-up, we will take turns to read a passage from Moss Roberts' translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and discuss some topics, themes, and plots. This is a great opportunity to practice your reading, learn about Three Kingdoms (if you're new), and immerse yourself in the fun of this novel. Each meet-up, we will take turns with a different moderator to lead group discussions during that event.
One Zi a Day
Learn 1 Chinese character during each weekly meet-up from a collection of oft-used terms from the original version of Three Kingdoms (in Chinese). You will not only get to learn a new language but also understand the oft-used terms in the original novel.
Debates of Jianye
Just as Zhuge Kongming dazzled the ranks of the kingdom of Wu with his sharp tongue and knowledge of state affairs, strategy, and history, so too can you. Once a month, we will host a short, timed debate where you will take the role of a follower of Wei, Shu, and Wu. Immerse yourself in the lore of Three Kingdoms during a set time period, and with the knowledge of events around that time, debate with fellow members to demonstrate your knowledge of the facts. This is a great way to learn more about Three Kingdoms and enjoy a little fun, friendly acting.
Three Kingdoms Gaming Night
If you've read the books, why haven't you played the games? There are dozens of titles in the Three Kingdoms realm in both PC and video games. Ever always wanted to play ROTK the strategy game with human players instead of the CPU? Now is your chance as we will meet to play! Dynasty Warriors, Dynasty Tactics will also be introduced.
Casual Get-togethers
Sit down, grab a drink, and relax. Take the time to meet the other Three Kingdoms-enthusiasts and talk non-Three Kingdoms. We will meet at bars, restaurants, and places to hang out.
