Cycling Exploration of Staten Island - Recreational / Exercise Ride

Cycling Exploration of Staten Island - Recreational / Exercise Ride

Route plan - http://goo.gl/maps/oIoVc - Approx 40 miles

Meet at the South Ferry terminal, Manhattan side @ 11am

If you're like me.. Staten Island is mostly a mystery to you.  You've probably ridden the ferry there and back again, and that's it. Or finished the annual 5Boro ride on SI, and rode to the ferry.

Let's explore.

Things to bring:

  • Helmet
  • Hydration
  • Spare tubes, patch kit & mini tools to change a flat
  • Cash, credit card, metro card, ID
  • Positive Attitude

SI Ferry Bicyclist Rules of Conduct:

  • Bicycles are permitted but must be stored in the designated bicycle storage areas.
  • Bicyclists must board on the lower level at both the St. George and Whitehall Ferry Terminals.
  • Bicyclists are subject to all Passenger Rules of Conduct.
  • Bicyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles to the waiting area and when boarding and departing the boat.
  • Bicyclists must stay clear of pedestrians.
  • All bicyclists are subject to screening upon arrival at the ferry terminals.
  • Bicycles may not be left in racks on vessels for more than 30 minutes (one trip). Bicycles left on the vessel after each trip will be removed.
  • Bicycles left in outdoor racks for more than 24 hours will be removed.
  • DOT is not responsible for stolen or damaged bicycles.

Great fun ride folks. Thanks for joining us!
Since we cut it a bit short, and still have the east side to explore, we'll do this again, the opposite direction. Also, I'm going to check if we can get bikes into the outdoor area of the German Bierhall!

REMINDER: The ride is, of course, weather dependent. As of today (Mon/24th) there is a possibility of T-Storms on Saturday. I'll keep an eye on the weather, and IF we need to postpone the ride, you will be notified NLT 8am Saturday. Please ensure you check your email or the event page notes before you head out to join us.

    So.. I found this:
    http://www.bldgdb.com/

A building database. Scroll down to Staten Island at the bottom. There are some buildings that date back to late 1600s. Definitely will be some exploring to do.

    what's the pace?

    May 21, 2013

    • Steve H

10-15. I'm thinking it'll be easy for you.

Pace will be Around 10-15 depending on the road and what there is to find. It's not a training ride, but it will be good exercise.
