Terraza 7.
Filipino Town
Some of you may be familiar with this small stretch in Woodside, Queens. Many of you may know Filipino Town by what the media has named this ethnic enclave as, "Little Manila". However, most of the cuisines and many of the residents of Filipino descent are not from Manila, but I guess it sounded good to the curious writers, bloggers and TV shows.
It will be a stroll UP Roosevelt Avenue where we will witness the changing and growing diversity of Queens, NY - the most diverse borough in NYC and possibly the most diverse city in the world.
DIRECTIONS:
Take the 7 train to 61st
NOTE: Please go to the MTA website for schedules, repairs, shut-downs and re-routes http://new.mta.info (http://new.mta.info/)
Driving Directions, go to http://maps.google.com
Parking is a little difficult, please adhere to any street parking regulations and meters. Private lots and garages on your own accord.
We will start at a very popular Filipino fast food restaurant, where we can get a quick bite to eat like their "burger and fries". (Dining optional. However, please allow some time for those who may be eating.)
This event requires light walking, if the walking activity may be difficult for you, this event is NOT recommended. Wear comfortable shoes, dress appropriately for the weather, please be careful of NYC traffic and conditions.
This will be "relatively" a short walk from Woodside to Elmhurst - One way trip(approximately 22 CITY blocks)
RAIN or SHINE
We will be ending at Terraza 7 (84th Street and Roosevelt Ave.) where you have the option of joining us for a cocktail and hopefully, some Latin Jazz. Terraza 7 does not serve food and that is because some of the well-known and amazing South American food carts are located in this area (Some of the best arepas and tacos found here). Outside food permitted inside Terraza 7
(We do not know yet what the music schedule is for September 2013, they may or may not have a late afternoon band playing, but we will update once we find out! If there is a band playing, there is a small fee to go to the stage located upstairs - or stay downstairs and listen to the band for free.)
To leave from Terraza 7 - take the 7 train from 82nd Street/visible from location.
