I'm still gathering info, but wanted to put this out there quickly.. here's the plan:
We'll be doing a walk thru Greenwood Cemetery, so be sure to bring your cameras and be ready for some amazing photo ops! Limited to 50 people. IF Time permits.. we'll then proceed on to a nature walk thru Prospect Park. Most of the "trails" in Prospect are only 1 - 2.5 miles, but it's along the way toward.. Our 4pm Brooklyn Taphouse (https://www.meetup.com/5BoroEXPLORATION/events/58882312/) meetup. Everyone who'd like to continue on & join us, is very welcome! Prospect Park will need to be optional, but we'll play it by ear, as the cemetery tour progresses. I'm anticipating we'll need at least 2-3 hours, because there's simply so much to see. Tess & I need to leave by 3pm to make it to our 4pm event. If anyone wants to pick-up the lead, after us, and continue with the cemetery + Prospect Park route, please do let us know!
What to know:
Cemetery:
Bring $5 cash per-person to pay at the gate for cemetery entrance. This is a payment to the cemetery and goes to support ongoing maintenance. We are meeting at the main gate, 12pm Noon @ 500 25th St (at 5th Ave). The R train is 1 block away. If you drive, free parking is available. Please park all vehicles on the right-hand side of the road. There are FREE maps available at the guard entrance. Also, the office sells self-guided tour books: $7 each (Battle Hill and Back (http://store.green-wood.com/collections/frontpage/products/the-green-wood-cemetery-walk-1-battle-hill-and-back-self-guided-walking-tour) | Sylvan Waters (http://store.green-wood.com/collections/frontpage/products/the-green-wood-cemetery-walk-2-valley-sylvan-waters-self-guided-walking-tour)) or both for $12. All Offices close @ 4pm. Photography is permitted. BUT, Professional photography or publishing of any photographs requires written consent of The Green-Wood Cemetery. Limited, if any, rest rooms. Food, beverages & alcohol are prohibited on Cemetery grounds. The may be ghosts. Hey, it's a cemetery! We're sorry but Pets are not permitted, with the exception of service animals. (Guide dogs) GATES CLOSE AT 4pm! So no matter what.. everyone must be out by then.
Prospect Park:
If anyone wishes to continue on thru Prospect Park, here is a list of trails: http://www.prospectpark.org/visit/places/nature_trails Please note that the Park's wooded areas, including those with nature trails, close at sunset, currently approximately 7:3opm.
