Draw & Sketch from Life for Comic Book Art

Join us for the first meetup about drawing and sketching using other artists as models to help improve your comic art (from 6pm - 9pm)! It's FREE! This meetup is designed to help you improve as an artist, whether you draw realistic, in gesture, comical, cartoon, manga style, or paint traditionally, and is open to all ages! It will be set up like a college portrait drawing class, where the students take short turns drawing each other. Hands, feet, and how clothing looks in different poses are among the most difficult to draw, but not if we have a real person posing! So come join us this Thursday if you want to improve in your comic art, and art in general, and also enjoy a good Cup of Joe at Bean There Cafe!

Don't forget to bring your art/drawing tools. Hope to see you there!

Im new to this site so bear with me. Is there a fee for coming? Do we need to bring chairs or tables or do we use the shop's stuff? Not sure what your setup is like.

Hi Sean, this meetup is free for any of the events. The coffee shop will have tables and chairs, (and coffee of course!) just bring something to draw with. If you have some art books you'd like to share, bring those as well. =)

Excellent. I should definately be there, though I may be as late as 7pm, if my girlfriend joins me (she is an artist also). Otherwise I will see you around six.

The first meetup was small, but overall we had a good time! Shared our art, talked about how to get started creating your comic and publishing it using Kickstarter.com, and even had time for a 30 minute drawing session in which a kind bystander posed for us (OK, he was working on his computer - but he didn't move!). It was a small first meetup, but I have to say we covered a lot of ground about comic book art, and art in general. Ideas from this meetup will be to make them more structured, maybe with a lesson plan for those that want to take home some "art homework". Hope to see more people come out to these Draw & Sketch from Life for Comic Book Art meetups! We also want to help other artists get their comic book projects off the ground by sharing resources and simply supporting each other!
