This meetup group is hosted at my home on Mercer Island, where I have a af Yahama grand pianos (C7 7'4'', and a Yamaha CVP 409 Clavinova digital piano. We sight-read 4-hand and 8-hand piano music.  Most of the 8-hand music is transcriptions of orchestral music (eg, Beethoven symphonies) that were fashionable as popular parlor music in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

It's really a kick to play with other pianists, and to get your fingers on some of the parts of, say, Beethoven's Fifth or Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. You'll need to have good sight-reading skills for this. The typical difficulty of the piano parts are that of early Mozart sonatas, but some parts are more difficult than that.

For 8-hand playing, we need no fewer than 4 pianists, and no more than 5, for a given meet-up so that everyone gets to play most of the time.  A core group of 6 of us have been playing each Weds evening since May, 2010. 

 

If you're interested in playing with us, please assess your sight-reading ability.  Our level of sight-reading is high.  It's only fun for you and us if you're good at sight-reading.  It's like tennis-- it's not fun for anyone if one of the tennis player is at a much lower skill level.
