CONGRATS ON TAKING THE FIRST STEP IN ACHIEVING YOUR HALF MARATHON GOAL!

Welcome to the beginning of your Holiday Half Marathon journey. A Snail's Pace Running Academy looks forward to not only getting you to the finish line of your event but to providing you with the tools to help you achieve your running and fitness goals.

We will be providing you with an evidence based, structured training program. By applying the principles and the training requirements we provide, you will greatly reduce the risk of injury.

At today's session, you will receive a brief orientation of approximately 10 minutes. This will include the introduction to our warm up process that is also a strength conditioning workout. For a preview of the warm up, visit the Files section on this meetup site. Files section is under the heading "More". The handout used for our warm up is Functional Warm-up (http://files.meetup.com/1735905/Functional%20Warm-up.pdf).

After a 1 mile warm-up you will participate in a timed 2 mile run. The goal of this timed run is not to run fast or hard, it is just a means for us to place you in a pace group and determine an appropriate interval for your training. Please dress prepared to run.

After our 3 mile run, we will complete a group Foundation Training workout before the cool down and post run stretching. You will find your FOUNDATION WORKOUT POST RUN final (http://files.meetup.com/1735905/FOUNDATION%20WORKOUT%20POST%20RUN%20final.pdf) in the Files section as well.

*Be sure to bring water for your workout this morning!

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/8/2/event_245163202.jpegJose feels coaching is a very fulfilling position because there is no better feeling than seeing someone who at first thought they were not a strong enough runner to finish a 5k accomplishment their goals. He currently runs to maintain his fitness level to participate in running events like 5k's, 10k's and Half Marathons. Jose has been running seriously since 2007 when he ran the Nike Run Hit-Remix at the Colosseum. Before that he was using running as a way to warm up before he started a physical activity like Martial Arts, Softball, Basketball and weight lifting. Right now his short term goal is to get a Triple Crown Medal in 2013 for running three Rock n Roll Half Marathons. His long term goal is to some day run a Full Marathon. Jose feels that you get out of your fitness what you put into it, in other words, go strong or go home.
