This news flash just in!! A meteor was seen crashing into Crooked Lake yesterday. S.K. Ylardog reported to local authorities that she saw a bright light outside of her tent about 10 PM as she was returning from the campground rest rooms. She saw several large splashes in the lake then clouds of steam from the area.
Scientists at the U of M astronomy observatory confirm that several meteors penetrated the earth's atmosphere last night and exploded into smaller pieces. Most of the pieces burned up in the atmosphere causing the bright light, but some may have made it to the surface. These pieces will vary in size but will very dense and heavy. Experts generally agree that the best place to stay during a meteor shower is in a rest room where you can be close to a source of water.
Local divers will converge on Crooked Lake today, guided by S.K. Ylardog, to retreive any meteor pieces they can find. These pieces may be valuable for scientific study and to meteorite collectors.
