Dearest Amigos of Spanish Meetup,
I am writing you because after a long and wonderful ride I have decided to step down as Organizer of Spanish Meetup. This is a difficult decision for me because I absolutely love Spanish, Spanish culture and (admittedly) to be in the spotlight. However, lately more and more I am lacking the time to give it the attention it deserves because of my job (I am a Realtor and the housing market’s heating up!). As I’m a total control freak, not giving it my all makes me die inside (figuratively).
But we had fun, didn’t we? During the course of four years we learned how to make hallacas, looked down the mouths of vicious lions, danced salsa, went on scavenger hunts in Latino supermarkets, participated in VIP gallery tours and everything in between…y todo en español. In four years we celebrated 90+ Meetups together. When I came on in 2009 we had almost 200 members and now…ALMOST 650! That makes me proud (snif). I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
But I’m not leaving you empty-handed. I’ve spoken to the wonderful people at Instituto Cervantes and they are eager to keep Spanish Meetup’s momentum moving forward. They understand our requirement that everything has to be in Spanish (please don’t ask me why I’m writing this in English), and they have the facilities, the native Spanish-speakers and las ganas. In fact, Organizers Fernando Gimeno Hermoso and Milly Castañeda are in the process of putting together Albuquerque’s first Latino Film Festival ¡Cine Magnífico! which you absolutely can’t miss. Cool stuff!
So, don’t be a stranger. Feel free to contact me anytime [address removed] Siempre estoy a la orden.
Un abrazo de rompe-costillas,
