Big BI: How to Analyze Hadoop Data with Today’s BI Tools

Details

Abstract

Do Big Data and Hadoop have to exist in separate worlds or can they be made to work together? At this point, most BI tools offer at least some connectivity to Hadoop, so that you can get to the data you want through tools that you know. Whether in the cloud, on-premises or some combination of the two, BI tools can help you analyze data in Hadoop.

That’s the good news. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find that there is a dizzying array of integration points, sometimes completely different from each other and in other cases, confusingly overlapping. Should you use Apache Hive? Spark SQL? Connect directly to the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS)? Even after you answer these questions for one BI tool, what do you do if you have to switch to another?

In this presentation, Andrew Brust (ZDNet’s Big Data Blogger and Senior Director, Technical Product Marketing at Datameer) gives you a breakdown of the various BI-Hadoop integration technologies, how they’re built, and how to understand their fundamentals so that you can use them from any BI tool.
