Hey everybody, thanks so much for all the responses. It's a good feeling
to see so many responses on the mailing list from a supposedly "dead"
Meetup. No way, just needed a little wind in the sails.
I'd like to keep this dialog going until next Tuesday or Wednesday. I know
most people won't be doing a lot of emailing over the three-day weekend,
but I want to give a little more time for feedback or ideas. By that time
I should be able to tell what would be the most conducive location, and
I'll put it on the meetup's event page. I think specifically I'd like to
ask if anyone has objection to any of the places we've recently suggested:
Flightpath Coffee, Kirby Lane North, Cafe Caffeine, Cafe Medici, Triumph
Cafe, Mangia Pizza or Central Market. I think IHOP or Denny's might not
work so well since they tend to be booth-based places and putting tables
together for a large group would be unlikely.
Another place I just thought of could be Star Seeds Cafe on IH-35. It has
a room on the side where we can be separate from everyone else, and I
believe they have WiFi. I think WiFi should be one of our criteria for
picking a place. Not necessarily a deal-breaker, but still something to
One point I would like to make is that personally, I don't think the group
needs to have a single place that it always meets at (nor does it have to
be the same day of the month necessarily). But it probably would be good
to have a "roster" of 3 or 4 places, with different advantages (and
geographic areas) for each, to help us with our flexibility and
adaptability. That being said, I don't hear anyone complaining about a
move away from downtown, so if you (dear reader) are someone for whom a
downtown location is a big draw, we need to hear from you.
I think that for this next meeting, we'll keep the day and date the same.
I was tempted to push it back a week, but one thing I have learned from
being a board member of the Vegetarian Network of Austin, it's a bad idea
to change an event's schedule when it's coming up real soon and the group
has had a recent drought of communication. For July we'll consider having
it on a different day.
Thanks everyone, and have a happy and safe Memorial Day.
