Cycle the Larkin Bridle Trail to Rich Farm Ice Cream

(MB, RL/HL, 10mph) 25 miles. Meet at 10 a.m. to ride at 10:15 a.m. from the Larkin Bridle Trail parking lot at 820 Church St. (Rt. 63), Naugatuck. Peaceful ride on former railroad bed with gravel surface, perfectly suited for those wanting to try off-road riding, but are unsure of what to expect. This route will include a few miles of mostly quiet backroads (with some hills) to avoid rough parts of trail, and to provide a refreshing stop at Rich Farm Ice Cream in Oxford. Otherwise, expect moderate terrain on an old railroad bed and no cars. If you want food other than ice cream, you will need to bring your own. Bring enough water for the trip, as there are no water options at the farm. Mountain bikes are recommended. A hybrid bicycle will work, but may give a bumpy ride on some of the rougher surfaces along the trail. No stores, so bring food and water. Helmets are always required on AMC bicycle rides. The leader will provide cue sheets. Read about the trail and download an excellent map from the state website: http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?A=2716&Q=434808 Website for Rich Farm: http://www.richfarmicecream.com/

Tom, I double booked myself with two different events the 23rd and went and did the trail today (without the ice cream) so that I could do the other event next week. I did the whole trail all the way to exit 14, it was all rideable with a mountain bike but the area between exit 14 and RT 188 could be bad if it just had rained a lot. Sorry that I'll miss the ride (and the ice cream), maybe next time.

Tom, I've wanted to do this trail for quite a while, hopefully no one will ask me to work so I can come (I'll let you know if I can't make it). See you Saturday!
