Passing the New AWS Certification Exam & DevOps on AWS w/ Salt Stack

Details

After a bit of a hiatus, I'm happy to announce that regular AWS Michigan meetings are now back on the calendar.

Thanks again to Arbor Networks (http://www.arbornetworks.com/) for graciously hosting and feeding us. Please RSVP ASAP so Dave @ Arbor Networks can determine how much pizza to order! This month's topics include:

Passing the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Exam

Jamie Begin

AWS unveiled their new certification program (http://aws.amazon.com/certification/) a few weeks ago by introducing the "AWS Certified Solutions Architect" credential. Jamie recently sat in the exam at Washtenaw Community College and passed. He'll discuss the exam content, it's relevance to the real world, and offer recommendations on how to prep for it.

DevOps on AWS w/ Salt Stack

Derek DeJonghe

Salt (https://salt.readthedocs.org/en/latest/), once described as "Puppet done right," is Python-based server orchestration and provisioning tool. For the past few weeks, Derek has been been knee-deep implementing Salt in a complex AWS deployment (http://creately.com/diagram/example/hhjhjk9m) to make ongoing management a snap. He'll walk us through getting started with Salt and overcoming some the challenges he encountered using it with AWS.
