April Tasting: Bordeaux: 2005 - the finest vintage in modern times!

Details
By popular request, this month we’ll be winding our way through Bordeaux!
Bordeaux has been the source of the most prestigious wines in the world from Roman times right up to today. The 2005 vintage is a true contender for the finest vintage from Bordeaux in modern times and the wines are just starting to become approachable. We’ll examine the reasons why this vintage is held in such high regard and we’ll learn about the unique terrior, climate, geography of Bordeaux. We’ll also look at the Bordeaux grape varieties and how they are carefully blended to make balanced and structured wines with complex aromas and concentrated flavors. Finally, we’ll unravel the complex framework of regulations and classification systems.
All of the wines that we’ll be sampling are from the 2005 vintage!
Cost per person, depending on attendance, will be $20 per person. Please bring a few extra $1 bills just in case we have less than 18 attendees. Also, please bring an appetizer to share. Here are a few appetizer ideas: Gruyère, Morbier, Camembert or Gouda cheeses, cured or smoked meats, stuffed or fried eggplant, crostini with goat cheese, mushroom and blue cheese napoleons, mushroom phyllo cups, mushroom tarts, cassoulet, pâté, blackberries or black cherries, red wine poached pears, or chocolate.
As a reminder, we are trying to concentrate on smelling wine, not one another. So please no perfume, cologne, body spray, aromatic hair gel or other strong fragrances.
Please note, this meetup group is designed for members and potential members of the American Wine Society.
