Summer is here again! and will keep reappearing no doubt. Join us for a Big Bloomin Bloomsday - see Act The Maggots' POP UP MOLLY among other events.
There are three must-visit destinations on this famous and soon to be infamous day in Dublin!
Celebrate Bloomsday this year with Act The Maggot in your pyjamas! At the end of the book, Ulysses, Molly Bloom can't sleep and is in the bed yakking away about everything and anything while her husband Leopold (Poldy) is fast asleep beside her. The easiest option for us maggots is to join in the fun wearing our best nighties, pyjamas, dressing gowns & slippers and come as Molly or Leopold - of course you can come as any character in Ulysses - if you have found the time to read it! I heard a professor once say that you should leave a copy of Ulysses in the loo and dip in and out if it as if it was a newspaper - sure makes for better reading than the paper these days!!!
Don't worry about being in town in your PJs - sure half the city will be dressed up for Bloomsday and the other half wear their PJs all year round - so no-one will even bat an eyelid!
Anyway - THE BLOOMIN PLAN IS:
1st Stop - Davy Byrne's pub for a gorgonzola sarnie & pint of plain. Then we'll shuffle along in our slippers to St. Stephen's Green - we'll parade up & down Grafton Street a few times and then we'll head Inside the park to the bandstand where from 3-6pm for Readings and Songs in The Green with Master of Ceremonies Peter Sheridan hosts a gala afternoon of readings and songs from Ulysses. Joyceans of all ages and backgrounds are most welcome! Come and read your favourite few words from the book of the day. We’ll be treated to music of the era and songs from the big blue book of Eccles.
2st Stop - Ranelagh Arts Centre- 6pm come see Act The Maggot's POP UP MOLLY - a costumed, staged reading from the famous Molly Bloom soliloquoy. It'll be quick so get there for 6 or you might miss it! THERE WILL BE A PRIZE IN RANELAGH FOR BEST JOYCEAN COSTUME!!
3rd Stop - Feck off home, get showered, shaved & shampooed - put on the glad rags and meet us in town on Bloomsnight for a great bleeding, bloomin, bejaysus of a night and let's party!!! (we'll tell ya where party is when you meet us!)
COSTUME NOTE: And no of course you don't have to come in costume but all costumes welcome! Fellas and Galscan wear PJs n dressing gowns - Gals another option - a store called OUTLET in the ILLAC centre is selling white cotton smock summer dresses for a fiver (they have em in brown & black too) - perfect for Molly & warm too - only a €5!!! - hopefully sun will be out and can lose the dressing gowns. SLIPPERS A store called WISTERIA on Capel St. is selling really cute white slippers with lovehearts for €1.99 and men's ones for €2.99 (sorry lads!)
