What's more likely to get you to exercise? A statistic that counts how many minutes you've been sitting down at your desk? Or a little figurine on your desk, that slouches into an unhealthy contorted position if you sit for too long?
Spencer Gerrol, CEO of the design consultancy SPARK Experience, and previously Executive Director of Human Factors International, will talk about how to design data interventions. He's not talking about how to make a prettier chart; instead: how to provide data to people in more meaningful, creative, and effective ways that help them change their behavior.
He'll teach us the principles of data design based in academic research and his real world work at SPARK Experience, and show us how these principles can be applied in everyday products like UP by Jawbone.
This won't be just a normal talk though -- we're doing a hands-on workshop. The first half will be learning the design principles. In the second half, we'll work together on concrete design concepts and learn from each other's ideas.
