There can be tremendous power in a name. I have found that the coolest, most interesting, nicest, and fun people are attracted to the name, "Awesomely Mediocre." Because of the positive experiences I've had with Basketball for the Awesomely Mediocre (BAM) and Awesomely Mediocre Psychotherapists (AMP), I found myself wanting to do other activities and sports with the great base of people we already have. This group is a way to connect all those people who have enough of a sense of humor about themselves to be able to call themselves Awesomely Mediocre.

Activities and Sports for the Awesomely Mediocre (ASAM) is a place to propose ideas and find partners for all types of pursuits in and around Sacramento, CA - this includes fitness-oriented activities (like volleyball, dodgeball, badminton, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, walks, hiking, tennis, running (I like high intensity interval training m'self!), cycling, climbing, swimming, gym sessions, confidence courses, dancing, boxing, yoga etc.,) or purely recreational activities (scavenger hunts, picnics, cooking classes, movies, theater shows, wine tasting, softball, game nights, fishing, bowling, video game tournaments, etc.). You are welcome to post ANY activity. Any member can schedule a meetup - just say WHAT you want to do, WHEN and WHERE you want to do it, and, if necessary, WHO you are looking for (number of partners for that event, expected fitness and experience level, whatever). ASAM is intended to be a member-run group, not one of those top-down groups where the organizer decides everything. Think of it as a networking tool. In other words, the group will have only as many activities as you, the members, collectively suggest and organize. The more you pitch in, the more recreation choices you will have. “Organizing” is not as serious as it sounds. In fact, it does not involve anything at all. Simply (1) decide what you want to do, (2) announce it to the group and see who else is interested, and (3) meet them and go. That’s it. There are two ways to do this on our website. The quickest is to just schedule a meetup and see who else signs up for it. The second, which is more appropriate for events far in the future or that require more extensive planning, is to post a message on the Discussions pages – that’s as simple as writing “I am doing X on day Y – does anyone want to join me?”. Conversely, browse those pages to see what ideas are out there. If there’s some trip or activity you would like to see happen, suggest it to the group. Other members can then indicate their interest. If the idea gathers steam, put it on our calendar. Finally, help spread the word about this new group. If you know of other people in and around Sacramento who may be interested, send them the link.  Now that's ASAM!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
