Talk by Gary Glonek: Model Syntax in R

A useful feature of R is the implementation of constructs such as "y~x",  "y~A*B+x" for the specification of linear models and their generalisations. This talk will be at an introductory level and will:

  • review the basic syntax and the operators used in an R model formula
  • explain how a model formula is translated to a model matrix
  • explain the interpretation of the corresponding parameters

It is intended for those who have some experience with techniques such as multiple regression and ANOVA but not necessarily with the model syntax.
