In this talk I will discuss how objects are represented and manipulated in R. R has two class systems for object oriented programming, S3 and S4. The generic functions plot, print and summary perform different computations depending on the class of an object. I will provide an overview of the S3 and S4 class systems and how methods for generic functions interact with them. The talk is aimed at an intermediate audience but will hopefully provide some insights for beginners.
The aim of the Adelaide R-users group is to meet, discuss R, and share our experiences of R. It also hopes to be an opportunity for new users to get a helping hand up the first part of the steep learning curve or at least learn how to fit a line to the steep learning curve.
