Discussion Topic: Travels

Do you like traveling? Let's prepare short monologues, 5-10 mins max (as informal and loosely structured as possible) in two parts, guided by the following prompts:

Part 1 - Warm up/Prelude:
What are the most interesting places you have been to - regionally or abroad? What do you think are the best holiday destinations? What are your home country's most popular tourist attractions? Do you prefer traveling on your own, in groups or taking a package tour? - give a couple reasons why. What do you miss most when you are away from home?

Have you either ever met anyone interesting while on a journey or have you ever come across any unusual food or drink? -Please describe the encounter, person, food, or drink as creatively and personally as you can.

No written speeches to be read verbatim, please, but do prepare one-word topic notes or cues to keep you going (we recommend using an Arabic-English/English-Arabic dictionary to include at least 3 words that are new to you, and at least one rehearsal before you come always helps). Please remember, we are not speaking to impress, but rather to improve, so keep it simple, though personal in expression!

Goals for the meetup:

• Keep it short and sweet (time flies when you present before others, so take care not to over prepare). And try to speak slowly and clearly to address the weaker among your listeners.

• Come prepared to LISTEN to your mates and stimulate discussion by asking interesting questions at the end of their talks.

• Let's try to stick to Fusha as best we can, bearing in mind the differences in dialects that we each have been exposed to.

• We suggest holding a notebook or pad to jot down new vocab for yourself.

Finally, if we are more than five, splitting into groups of 3's or 4's would facilitate fair and equal conversation time, before reconvening at the close.This time we will gather on one of the lawns near the same Central Park entrance. Instructions for navigation will come with your RSVP.
