Coffee Bark!

  • October 5, 2013 · 7:00 AM

First Saturday Of Every Month...
Rain, sleet, snow (sorry - snow can get the best of us sometime) or shine, FIDO in Prospect Park sets up a table full of goodies on the first Saturday of every month.  Look for coffee, pastries, dog biscuits as well as relevant information pertaining to off-leash activities and issues. And it's all FREE!

Since Prospect Park is so large, here are detailed instructions how to get some free food:

Enter Prospect Park at 9th Street
Walk straight in until you come to the ball fields (on right)
Make a left along the meadow.

Or enter at the Villa (PPW & 4th St)
Go through parking lot and out the back across Inner Drive
Picnic House is right there.
You'll see the Fido banner and crowd clustered by a brick building.
Picnic House bath rooms open at 8 a.m.!

I wish the event started later like 8 am and lasts longer until 10 or 11.

Welcome to the city! Here are some tips to know about off leash: 1)not all parks are designated for off leash 2) even if a park is an "off leash'' park, there may be designated areas were the dogs can be. You will see this in larger parks like Prospect Park, Central Park. 3) off leash hours are 9pm to park closing and park opening to 9am. If you are caught with your dog off leash in an undesignated area or time, you will be ticketed and fined with a possible court hearing.
If you would like, I can send you a pdf booklet on NYC dog parks and dog runs

Thank you Rachel. You are most kind. I have a Cavalier King Charles spaniel who is not the most obedient and we only allowed her to be off leash at the event. She was overwhelmed by all the other dogs and stayed close to our side. It was difficult to get her to interact with the other dogs and play but when she did it was so fun to watch.

as a non morning person, I wish we could start/end Coffee Bark later (especially a Saturday morning), but alas, we must obey NYC leash laws. Dogs are allowed off leash from Park opening to 9am. Luckily there's plenty of coffee there :)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
