Baldy via Ski Hut & Return Via Backbone & Ski Lift, 7.5 mile RT/4000 ft Gain

The Hike:

  • Hike up via Ski Hut and return via Devils Backbone Trail & ski lift.

    Distance: 7.5 miles RT

    Elevation Gain: ~4,000 ft.
    Min Elevation : 6,103 ft.
    Max elevation : 10,064 ft.

    Rating: 8/10

    PLEASE READ!!! FOR BEGINNERS: If you have not done a high altitude hike with at least 3000 ft elevation gain within the past month or so, this is not the hike for you.

    Time on the trail: 5 to 7 hours.

    Trail: Some pavement, fire road, but mostly single track and rocky trails.

    We will hike via the Ski Hut Trail to the summit and return via Devils Backbone & ski lift.

  • One way cost of ski lift is $10.
  • Adventure Pass is required for parking at Manker Flats.

    PLEASE - Know your limits and abilities. Bring plenty of liquids and sunscreen when hiking. Check weather conditions and dress accordingly and be aware of your surroundings at all times. It can be windy at the Summit, so bring layers.

    This was a very enjoyable experience for me. Thanks Rashid for organizing this event. I made a couple new friends too. That is always kool. Looking forward to more of your events and thanks for including me. BTW, could they make the incline a bit more sloped. :)
    Weather was very pleasant. Great hike, great venue. 1st time for me.

    Tonight Mostly clear, with a low around 48. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

    Saturday Sunny, with a high near 62. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

    Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 52. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Perfect for a hike to Mt. Baldy tomorrow!

      I may hike down, but not sure yet. I'm bringing my dog and while I've taken the chairlift with him before (he's 60 lbs!) I'm more comfortable walking it. It depends on how tired he is most likely.
