Hey guys. I'm new to this whole meet up thing. I love to hike but I'm not quite sure where this area is at. Is this place close to the valley?

    Re: Carpooling and Parking
The parking at Dawson Saddle is very limited. There's a big parking lot at Vincent Gap (need wilderness permit) where we can meet up to carpool to Dawson (app. 4 to 5 mi).
Also: (Mc Donalds @ the 138) I'll be coming up the 15 from San Bdno. and am willing to stop and pick up 3 for the ride up. Let me know... Must be there no later than 6:30.

It's a long way to drive (2 hrs) for only 8 miles, let's make it a little longer, Rod.

    Rod;
Did the Bear Canyon hike yesterday, and the sign on Hwy 2 going up from LaCanada showed the road is open to Wrightwood So if you want to do your original hike...?
    I called to confirm it.

    Grassy Hollow Visitor Center
    Angeles Crest Highway (HWY 2)

    (626)[masked] Only open on weekends

    Sorry, Family matters

    May 7, 2013

  • Stan

They close it every winter, usually reopening around Memorial Day weekend. I guess it is too hard to keep clear of snow and debris.

    May 3, 2013

  • Mark "Gadgets" E.

    And why is it closed?

    May 2, 2013

  • Stan

Anyone know when Hwy. 2 will be open? Currently it is closed at Vincent Gap so you can't get to Dawson Saddle from the Wrightwood direction.
