Slow Poke Hike To Mt Baden Powell Via Vincent Gap

Next to Mount Baldy, Mount Baden–Powell (9,399') is probably the most popular mountain climb in the San Gabriels. This superb trail climbs directly up the northeast ridge to the summit in 41 switchbacks with panoramic views north over the Mojave Desert and southeast into the deep chasm of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River and the views from the summit are spectacular.

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO "PLUS ONES" ALLOWED TO ATTEND THIS HIKE. IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT REALLY WANTS TO GO ON THIS HIKE, HAVE THAT PERSON SIGN UP SO HE/SHE CAN READ THE HIKE DESCRIPTION AND THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY.

Although we will be taking a slow poke pace, this is an intermediate level hike due to the elevation gain and altitude and is not suitable for beginning hikers or couch potatoes. You must be in good physical shape for this hike.

NOTE: Experienced hikers and peak baggers will likely find our slow poke pace excruciating slow, so please bear this in mind before joining this hike. This hike is also posted on Lazy Ass Hiking.

Either way, this trail is an excellent way to bag a peak and experience outstanding summit top views of the San Gabriels including Mt Baldy, Iron Mt and Mt Wilson to name a few.

Wow, this awesome group of hikers charged up the hill liked they owned it and waited patiently for the two slowpokes (Kim and I). The weather was perfect and the views awesome. Special thanks to Linda B. from LAH for leading the hike!

It was brought to my attention that the Google Maps Drop Pin was incorrect. I'm not sure how that happened, but have reset the pin to the Mt Baden Powell Vincent Gap parking lot. The GPS coordinates are:[masked],-117.751890. But just in case the pin gets fouled up again, just follow these directions:

The Vincent Gap parking lot is located on the Angeles Crest Highway (2), 5.5 miles west of Big Pines. Be sure to display your Adventure Pass on your parked vehicle.

Thanks for catching the glitch, Jay!
