Lightroom 5 - workshop: an introduction

Attend the first program in our Continuing Education Series,  (the first of 3 workshops on Lightroom 5).

This workshop is an Introduction to Lightroom 5:

This presentation is for photographers who are either unfamiliar with, or new to this amazingly popular software which has become the standard for amateur and professional photographers alike. It will provide an overview of the workspace and the seven modules with emphasis on the two major features, file organization and photo developing.

Our presenter is the widely recognized guru George Garbeck. George has lectured extensively over the years on various versions of Lightroom. He has brought understanding to many and illuminated the way towards proficiency.

Our presenter George Garbeck:

Instructor's Bio:

George Garbeck is an award-winning photographer who teaches photography workshops and lectures on digital photographic techniques. He is an Adobe Certified Expert, member of the Photographic Society of America and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. He is a trustee for the Paterson Youth Photography Project and is the graphics coordinator for the Paterson Public School District.

George's presentations are always enthusiastically received and quickly followed by rave reviews.

While this is not a hands on workshop, attendees are invited to bring along their laptops and follow the presentation on their own computer. Power strips will be provided.

Anyone can download a free trial version of Lightroom 5 to their laptop by going to the following link: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom

Since the trial period only lasts for 30 days, we suggest you wait until the last moment to download the trial version. In that way, the trial version will still be active if you want to attend the second workshop in the series, Working Efficiently in Lightroom (Intermediate Level) scheduled for Nov. 14th, 2013.

The third workshop in the Lightroom 5 series is Lightroom in Depth (Intermediate level.

Hopefully, by this time you will have become a dedicated user of Lightroom and have a paid copy installed on your computer.

This series of workshops will be presented in the Saddle Brook Marriott located in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. The hotel is conveniently located just off Route 80 and the Garden State Parkway. It's easy to get to and convenient parking in the hotel's parking lot is free.

This is the opportunity that so many of you have been waiting for. A series of workshops (3) designed to get you up and working in Lightroom.

Hi George I'm confused regarding payment. I am hoping to attend both the AM session on portrait photography and yours. I only see a payment option for the portrait session. Would you direct me to where to find the payment page? Alan will be coming too. Thanks, Janet

An excellent workshop! I have been using Lightroom 3 for about a
year and a half but George showed me how to use it more efficiently.
I also picked up a lot of great new tips.

Excellent, It touched all the subjects I had problems with, I am glad I decided to attend!

Key for me was bringing laptop & working along with him as he explained his edits.

    • Lynn

I agree. That was great. I knew a lot of the features, except the local edits. When he explained a feature I didn't know, I went into one of my own photos and tried it out. It really helps to be able to follow along.

Really enjoyed your workshop George. It cemented tips I took from your previous workshop with Allison providing me with many more Ah-Ha moments. Thank You!

Thanks so much for the class! I have been using Lightroom for over a year but still learned a lot to make better edits and make the process easier. Thanks again.

This was a great class!! I was already fairly familiar with Lightroom, but I still picked up some excellent tips that I hope to put to good use in the near future! Definitely time and money well spent. In fact, the class was a bargain compared to other Lightroom classes I've taken and seen advertised. Thanks so much Marty for setting this up.

Hard to rent space on a weekend at an affordable rate.

      I understand, thanks for replying.

    Martin
I attended George's "Introduction to Lightroom" earlier this year at one of the RCC Wednesdays evening meetings. Is the Oct 24, 2013 version of "Introduction to Lightroom" the same as previously provided earlier this year?

    September 7, 2013

    • Martin J.

Bob, I forwarded your question on to George and here's his answer: "I have not given an "Intro to LR" at the RCC for several years. I did present "Beyond The Basics" at RCC last year which is a totally different program. I did give an "Intro to LR" at Teaneck last year. Perhaps that is what he is referring to. The upcoming program is an extended version of that (an hour longer-with more detail) and also updated to include the latest version of the program - (Lightroom 5)."

Are there facilities for those with hearing loss so we can understand the lectures?

    1 · August 28, 2013

    • Martin J.

Eleanor, Thanks for the information. I had no idea that this type of system even existed. I've located a company that supplies this type of equipment and I'll make inquires next week. I have no idea what type of financial commitment would be involved but I suspect that it would be economically unfeasible for a group such as ours. Don't mean to prejudge so I'll hold off coming to any conclusions until I speak to the suppliers. I'll keep you advised.

      August 31, 2013

    • Eleanor L.

Yes, it is a wonderful hearing aid and is gaining more recognition as time passes.

      August 31, 2013

  • Jim D.

I want to attend both sessions. Where do I sign up?

    August 28, 2013

    • Martin J.

Jim, There are 3 sessions, not 2. An Introduction on Oct. 24th, Intermediate Level on Nov. 14th and an Advanced program on Dec. 12. To sign up for the Oct. 14th session, go to http://www.meetup.com...

      August 28, 2013

    • Martin J.

Jim, The Meetup format isn't very convenient for responding to your question. I'd prefer responding directly to your regular email address. Please send your email address to me at [masked] Thanks, Marty

      August 28, 2013

  • Lynn

I can only come to the first session, as I am scheduled for foot surgery on 11/5. If you are able to offer any sort of remote solution, such as a gotomeeting or join.me, I would be interesting in taking the other workshops.

    August 20, 2013

    • Martin J.

Lynn, While the technology is certainly available to do what you ask for, we're not up to the task yet. Perhaps in a year or two, but not now. Sorry. Marty

      August 21, 2013

  • Eleanor L.

I have Lightroom 4.3 and still struggling. I'm not really interested in getting #5. Would the workshop be helpful to me?

    August 11, 2013

    • Martin J.

Eleanor, I posed your question to George and here's his response. "Absolutely. The essentials are exactly the same between the two versions. 5 just adds some new features."

      August 12, 2013

  • H. Denis M.

I purchased Lr 4 right before Lr 5 was announced. I qualified for a free upgrade from Adobe. The workshop will be very timely.
