African Soul Jam [A.S.J.] Pages

African Soul Jam was started by music lovers who felt something lacking in New York City’s nightlife scene: Africa’s scintillating dance rhythms. Since 2009, we have organized Meetup parties and other music events that are helping to make African music a staple in the city’s entertainment scene. Our events represent the FUN side of Africa, focusing on upbeat dance music that’s missing on New York airwaves.

African Soul Jam is the place where world music and African music converge. However, we welcome ALL partygoers, regardless of ethnic background or music taste. We create a fun-filled multicultural atmosphere where you can socialize and dance to African club rhythms.

New Yorkers have probably heard about legendary African musician, Fela Kuti, because of the Fela! musical or the Afrobeat revival scene. Contemporary African music is so much more diverse, though. In addition to traditional African beats, African club music has been influenced by music from the Americas as well. So the rhythms are easily adaptable on dance floors.

Music and dance are just two of the positive, creative things the African continent has to offer. For decades, Africa has produced award-winning music icons with stellar global appeal. Some of them are even considered as being among the top 100 most influential entertainers in the world.

Some African artists you might or might not know about include Manu Dibango, Brenda Fassie, Koffi Olomide, A. B. Crentsil, Youssou N'Dour, Angelique Kidjo, Samini, Femi Kuti, Magic System, P-Square, Tkzee, Awilo Longomba, Timaya, Authur Makofate, Ofori, Mokobé and many more

Peace!
