O'Fallon Park After Shopping Hike & Dinner @ Black Hat

  • Nov 23, 2012 · 3:00 PM

After you're finished with Black Friday shopping, let's do an afternoon hike at O'Fallon Park, a gem in the forest about 8 miles west of Morrison off of C74. The hike will be almost 4 miles with 920' of elevation gain, and we'll watch the sunset at 4:40pm during the hike—BRING A HEADLAMP.

After the hike, those interested will go to the Black Hat Cattle Co. for a more upscale than usual dinner (clink on link for menu and prices—they serve steak and seafood, not much vegetarian, but you can call them in advance for special requests).

Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome description. The weather is mercurial this time of year, so on the day of the hike if the weather is questionable be sure to check the website or call or email the leader (cell# will be sent to those who've RSVP'd) to confirm the hike is on. This time of year, you may need traction devices such as Micro Spikes (click on link). Dogs are welcome on this hike, but they must be on a leash and you must pick up after them. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.

Directions: For this hike, we will meet in Morrison and carpool to the trailhead. We are meeting at the parking lot across from the Conoco gas station at the northwest corner of C470 and Morrison Road. Click here for a map with directions.

What a wonderful hike! The views of the mountains were gorgeous, and the trail was a perfect combination of easy and challenging. The dinner at Black Hat afterward was excellent!

I am up for a lot of snow! and if it takes extra long shoes (say 195cm) I say its about time. And if its 10 degrees we wont get too hot. If its below zero we will be nice and cool.
