O'Fallon Park Summer Solstice After Work Hike & Dinner

Hello After Work Hikers!

I've scheduled a special after work hike and dinner on the summer solstice (the longest sun day of the year), Monday, June 21. We'll hike at O'Fallon Park, and after the hike go to the Black Hat Cattle Co. in Kittredge. This restaurant is more upscale than other restaurants I schedule after our hikes. The owner is giving us 10% off of entrees, but we need a good turnout at the dinner. To make this work, I've limited the hike to one person (me), so when you register, you'll go on the Wait List, and you'll be asked whether you plan to go to dinner after the hike. After enough people sign up for the hike (probably in a week or two), I will manually advance people from the Wait List, giving priority to those planning on going to the dinner.

O'Fallon Park Summer Solstice After Work Hike & Dinner
Monday, June 21 (Summer Soltstice), 6:00PM

Let's celebrate the longest day of the year in style! We'll hike in one of my favorite parks, O'Fallon Park, and then go to the Black Hat Cattle Co in Kittredge for dinner afterward. O'Fallon Park is a gem about 7 miles west of downtown Morrison off of C74, and it actually takes us through a forested area--sometimes you'll see deer or other wildlife on this hike. The hike will be about 4 miles with 920' of elevation gain, and we'll hike up to a summit with beautiful views of the mountains to the west.

The Black Hat Cattle Co. (click on link, and in upper left click on "Complete Menu" for menu with prices) is more upscale than most restaurants we go to after our hikes, and specializes in fish and steaks. The restaurant has a southwestern theme, and if it is warm enough, we'll eat on the patio outside. The owner is offering us 10% off our entrees but we need a good turnout. In order to make this work, when you register for this hike, you'll be put on the wait list, and you'll be asked whether you're going to dinner. I'll advance people from the wait list giving priority to those planning to go the dinner afterwards. Also, if you end up on the roster for this hike, please make every effort to attend.

You may wish to bring a spare pair of shoes to change into for the restaurant after the hike, esp. if the trails are muddy. Please note the details about bringing appropriate gear and in case of bad weather in this Meetup Group's Welcome! description. In particular, be sure to bring rain gear, and bear in mind that it will be cooler where we are hiking than in Denver (check the weather forecast for Kittredge, CO) . Afternoon thunderstorms are common, but they usually clear up by hike time. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but you must pick up after your dogs and they must be on a leash. If you join this hike, you are agreeing to this waiver.

For this hike, we will meet in Morrison and carpool to the trailhead. We are meeting at the parking lot across from the Conoco gas station at the northwest corner of C470 and Morrison Road. Click here for a map with directions.
